FYJO is for anyone aged 8 to 24 who plays a musical instrument and wants to play jazz with other young people.

Do I need to be able to improvise?
Not at all - that’s what FYJO is for. Our philosophy is “Mistakes are cool!” You’ll learn improvisation and jazz playing step by step, in a friendly and supportive environment.
Jazz Juniors - ages 8–12
New to jazz, or a bit young for the full band? Jazz Juniors is our introduction to jazz for 8–12 year-olds - a friendly half-hour session on Zoom, every Thursday from 6:00 to 6:30 pm, before the main rehearsal. It’s the perfect first step, and many Juniors go on to play with the full orchestra. Email fyjosecretary@gmail.com for the Zoom link.
What instruments do you need?
All instruments are welcome. Big-band staples - saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, guitar, bass, drums - are always in demand, but if you play something else, come and talk to us; jazz has room for everyone.
