Testimonials
FYJO provides a positive safe space to allow our young musicians to learn, and experiment with music to further develop their creative skills, whilst helping students to advance their social skills with their equals and peers. The bright promise of our students is well recognised by our supporters and other professional musicians. Below we have provided a short list of testimonials from previous and past students, and other professionals that have witnessed the musical passion of our group:
FYJO is the perfect way to spend a Thursday night. It allows me and many others to meet up and have fun learning jazz

I would encourage you to come along, quite literally it’s a blast.

My first FYJO rehearsal I remember being awe-struck by the powerful, swinging, exotic sound that the band made – I had never heard anything like this before! At this stage I knew I was drawn to jazz music but I knew very little about jazz styles, harmony, and rhythm. At FYJO, surrounded by like minded people and great teachers, I was given the opportunity to learn. FYJO was essential to my musical development; were it not for FYJO, I would not be making a living from playing, composing and teaching today.

It all started with FYJO – first tune learned by ear, first real jazz performance, first jazz residential jazz course. I can say without doubt that had it not been for FYJO, I wouldn’t be a professional jazz musician today. There are still times, in my work as a performer and as a teacher, that I reach back to my experience with the band to guide me. Bands like FYJO are essential for the health of the UK jazz scene.
